Our Story

Shrub Fuel began with a simple frustration: nearly every "clean" energy drink on the shelf still relied on synthetic caffeine, isolated extracts, or an ingredient list you needed a chemistry degree to read.

So we made our own. Founded by food scientists in San Diego, Shrub Fuel is built around one extraordinary plant — guayusa (pronounced gwhy-you-sa), a caffeinated Amazonian holly leaf the Kichwa people have brewed for over two thousand years.

Instead of stripping the leaf down to a caffeine isolate, we cold-brew it slowly to keep its chemistry intact. Naturally occurring caffeine, L-theanine, and theobromine stay together the way nature intended — delivering smooth energy and calm focus without the spike, the jitters, or the crash.

We took it to farmers' markets across Southern California before it ever reached a shelf, because we wanted honest feedback from real people. Today you'll find Shrub Fuel at GNC, independent retailers across San Diego County, and online — but the standard hasn't changed: single-origin guayusa, zero sugar, USDA Certified Organic.
